when situations take me aback, i tell myself that in life, we're bound to not get the things we want/wished for. sounds delusional but the statement heralds a certain truth.

am just starting to grapple with things that're happening.

'All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts'

yeah, life's a stage. your friends are the characters, and they have their exits and entrances. Some are forgotten, they exit your stage. Some leave for good, they never appear again; while some leave momentarily, they'll make their entrance again.

the play moves on even without these characters, and many events wait to be unfold.

unfortunately, life's linear, and i sometimes wish i could relive moments again, change the way things appear, and atone for the mistakes i made

i'm currently addicted to local poets. i've been introduced arthur yap and lee tzu pheng in e.lit classes and they're really awesome! the school library has an extensive collection of poems by local poets such as edwin thumboo, aaron maniam, cyril wong etc.

my personal favourite is cyril wong! i like the way he captures a particular feeling succinctly in his words. aaron maniam is almost very different from him. his poems capture still images instead. me being more sensory inclined than being a visual person is perhaps the reason i prefer cyril wong.

here's my favourite. it talks about the manner someone suffers under the hands of death.

elegy

The tulip died,
A hand shivering
Open, each petal

A broken finger,
Each tongue of leaf
Swimming out

From a paper throat.

realise how he writes an image of a person gasping for air, on the brink of dying. it made me recoil - indeed heart wrenching.

poems are definitely a fascinating read.

rethink singapore

there's a frenzy of ndp songs in school - at least within my social circle of friends.

from national icons with their songs of love and overt patriotism for singapore, i guess every year's song never fails to entertain me.

this year's ndp song 'what do you see' by electrico seems to receive an exceptionally huge response from critics alike. as an ardent supporter of electrico, i've to say the song's great. i know it may not be the conventional ndp song that's catchy, easy to sing with plain lyrics and tunes, i still love it.

isn't it time for a change. i've been overwhelmed by the somewhat similar renditions year after year that i can't even remember or took notice of last year's 'shine for singapore'.

well, listening to 'what do you see' is definitely a pleasure. yet with the bold decision to go contemporary rock, i can't help but look back at past conventional songs i used to sing incessantly when i was in primary school.

so i guess this year's ndp song has not only introduced something different, but made me reminisce the past songs.

P.S visit electrico's myspace to hear how great they are with they productions. i've heard them live at baybeats and they are really good. my favourites are runaway, shadow, hail to the friends and save our souls:

nine in the afternoon

my hands are plague with blisters from climbing the monkey bar - so much for being active.

school's been really disturbing as we realise how near we are to our promos. it's merely 2 months or so and it's just unimaginable that a year's passed that fast! it just made me reflect on how much i've actually achieved over this year. i guess we've all been so bombarded by the overwhelming content and workload that we lost track of time.

i've also been busy with project work - with time spent sorting and discerning information ... (the list goes on) can't afford to neglect pw simply because it's the official a-level subject that we all have to get over and done with this year. fighting fighting!

on another note, today during literature tutorial, we analysed carol ann duffy's poems and i really admire writers of literature. their sense of the world and the people around them is very strong and it's a great feat to be able to pen them down in an intellectual manner for other people to sympathise with. literature classes are always a joy and a privelege.

alright, i'll make a conscientious effort to blog more often about my experiences! at least when i grow older, i'll be able to look back through the records.

it's back to school tomorrow. i wouldn't want to know how it'd be like. i bet half the time will be spent catching up with my classmates. the holidays' been totally lifeless and we've been bogged down by exams during the first week. it's so crazy.

anyway, managed to gather with the bandies and my class over the past few days! coincidentally, both gatherings were at sentosa.

steamboat at huipeng's house was superb. it was actually my first time running a steamboat session because all my other steamboat experiences were taken charge by my parents. we bought the raw food from ntuc at jurong point after a day at sentosa. buying the food in bulk was cheaper and we spent less than $5 for a filling dinner! we couldn't finish the food at the end!

had a sleepover at huipeng's house that night together with sylvia and kaylene! we had a hard time deciding what movie to watch. we mustered our courage to watch grudge 3 in the end. it was huipeng's second time watching so we all forced her to warn us of any sudden scenes. the movie was totally horrifying. it's worst than shutter! but rec and the jap horror movie (which i forgot the name) are still the worst ones for me.

5L outing at sentosa was also great with the fun we had playing netball, although the attendance wasn't very good. we decided that we're going to have more frequent class gatherings - which will be really awesome.

what an oxymoron

yes it's the end of the mid years i should be screaming my dinner out and prancing on the beach and laughing like a hyena. but aren't the feelings of relief so temporal, so not genuine? we've all experienced this umpteen times yet we know this period of post-exams mean more academics, homework, information overload, which will lead to more exams. i've had enough, i should be more composed.

can't imagine going back to the daily routine of lectures and tutorials next week.

ok i know i've not been writing here. i'll be back on track after the !#$%!#@& mid years.

anyway, I TOTALLY MISS K-DRAMAS SUDDENLY. i admit i'm not an ardent fan of everything k-pop but at least i enjoy watching them. and this song was featured in goong!

the girl's called Maybee and the guy's Lee Seung Gi. their voices are super compatible and most importantly they're both really good looking.

S.KOREANS ARE EASILY THE BEST LOOKING ASIANS.

IT'S CRAZILY AWESOME.

on hindsight, it was really a month brimming with activities! from syf to tests to everything. i guess i literally dredged myself through the weeks - meeting submission deadlines, rushing out work, and catching up with my sleep and homework.

whoo. the pace of life is really increasing exponentially. during this period of stress, i guess the people who really keep me going are my friends and family! especially my fellow bandsmen during the syf period and my classmates during academic lessons and my family during my life at home!

it's great that the june holidays are nearing! i can't wait for its arrival so i get to manage my time better without the restrictions of school hours and everything.

i had a surprise lit test today. shocked the hell out of everyone i guess. it was unseen poetry criticism - luckily. i interpreted a few questions wrongly i must say i was rather stupid and naive. winata laughed the hardest when i told her my interpretation of the poem ok! at least several other questions i was able to elaborate fairly well. hope i get a decent good grade!

there's project work tmr! it's the first time i'm looking forward to it because i get to work in my pw group! which consists of yanpeng, nadia, soosien and zhangyu! can't ask anything more for this arrangement. hope everything goes well and we get to have some fun and laughter too.

oh yes, it just struck me that before june holidays, we're going to have one our gp mid years. horrors.
